Mission to Libya August 2008 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jane Griffiths
We waited on God before we left for Libya and he gave us lots of words. He said, “I’ll make a way, trust me, trust me”. He said that he would protect us and we need to eagerly desire more of him. We were to show God’s love, peace, joy, patience, heal the sick, the men would be more prominent and the women would wait to be spoken to. God also told us that we are lighthouses and the light of the light. We were also given words from our brothers and sisters in Christ that we would open doors, give them Heaven, Libya meant liberation and we would be filled with joy for using the gifts that God has given us. God told us that Qadhafi the Libyan leader was going to receive the bibles. God told us to put the bibles in my bag and they wouldn’t be taken from us. We kept this to ourselves and we put total trust in God that the bibles would go to Qadhafi.

We arrived in Tripoli on Tuesday evening at 6.00pm which was late as our flight was delayed by two hours and we were met by a man called Salim who greeted us warmly and helped us to get through customs quickly. We were supposed to be charged for being late as we had kept Salim waiting for quite a long time but he did not charge us, God continued to bless us throughout the week. We checked into the Alokhowa Hotel which was a very clean and comfortable hotel. We left the hotel to purchase some water but as we were about to pay for our drinks we discovered that our Euros were not acceptable. We put the drinks back and one of the customers in the kiosk asked us to wait. He went into the street and asked people to open up their businesses which were closed and we were able to change our money into Libyan dinars. We couldn’t believe how people could go out of their way to help us so much, we were truly blessed. We felt like the only tourists in Libya and although we were covered up well, we really stood out with our pale skin especially as most women wore hijabs. We found the price of food very inexpensive which was a blessing as it enabled us to bless others in need. In the evening we proclaimed the scriptures and claimed the nation in the name of Jesus over the city from the hotel balcony.

On Tuesday evening we were waiting on God and he told us to read the scriptures and claim the nation in the name of Jesus every day which we did. That evening God told us to go to the parks, streets, lakes, bridges, water, church, ruins and to the poor and he said, “There’s more”. God told us to bless people, to pray for them and to share the gospel. God told us that he has given us a gift and we had to share it. He gave us a picture of an open hand giving and a picture of an open hand receiving and he said, “They are seeing God’s love and it opens up the way for the gospel”. God said, “As you have freely received, freely give, it’s time for a now faith”. It was only the first evening and God had spoken so much to us which left us expectant and excited of our week ahead.

We travelled to Budapest from East Midland airport and met up with Dan & Ruth Lush from the Huddersfield Church. We climbed the tower of St Stephen's Basilica and procaimed the prophetic scriptures from each corner of the tower together covering the whole city.- much to the interest of the tourists up there!

The following day we went off of seperately to find our "man of peace". It was a festival weekend in Budapest and Christine and I waited outside St Matthew's Church (Their equivalent of St Paul's Cathedral) as people gathered for a National service. We saw someone handing a Biblspoke to some people who pointed us in the direction of a small back street evangelical church. The foyer of the church building was open and showed signs of spiritual life, we found the house of the pastor and gave the letter and the Bibles to his adult son.

Mission to Moldova PDF Print E-mail
Written by Emma Smith
MoldovaWhen we first decided to go to Moldova all the information that we had found about the country was about poverty, the terrible condition of the prisons and the number of orphanages. Based on this information we contacted various charities that worked in orphanages and prisons in the hope of serving them in any way that would be helpful. For months we contacted every charity we could find to ask about volunteering but heard nothing back. When praying a week before setting out God told us that it was no coincidence that we’d not heard anything, he wanted us to totally rely on him. So we prayed that we would be guided by the Holy Spirit and set out to Moldova with no agenda and nothing set except the place we were staying and the transport.

While walking around Chisinau, Moldova we prayed that God would show us life as a lot of what we saw was religion and tradition. On our first day we decided to walk round the area where we were staying to work out where everything was and get a feel for the area. After walking for a while saw a sign which said “Elim Pentecostal”. With excitement we walked up to the building and knocked on the door. The door was opened by a smiley man named Serghei and praise God he spoke English! We chatted to him about mission 193 and about his church and talked lots about their understanding and experience of the Holy Spirit. Serghei seemed very excited to meet us and hear about our mission. He invited us to the church meeting the following evening.

The meeting was brilliant, we’d found life!! God was speaking to the church about having a thirst for the Holy Spirit and the need to experience the Holy Spirit. We talked to Serghei about our plans to pray and prophesy over Moldova and asked if he thought anyone would be interested in coming with us.

The following day we went back to the building where we met Igor. He is a Moldovan who is currently studying in South Korea and he spoke very good English. We chatted to Igor about our Mission 193 and told him that we wanted to pray and prophesy for his country and asked if he’d like to join us. Igor asked us to come to a youth meeting at his church which was associated with the Elim church and located in another part of the city. He asked us to speak to the youth about Mission 193 and then invite the youth to pray and prophesy with us. We were very excited by this invite but we were meant to begin our journey home on the night that the youth meeting was taking place. We had to rearrange our travel and book another night of accommodation in order to go to the meeting, so the one thing that had been set before we left was changing!

MoldovaWe went into town with Serghei to rearrange our travel, we were so blessed to have a translator and someone who knew where we were going. While in town we talked to Serghei lots about the Holy Spirit and baptism. We had decided that Serghei was the righteous man who we wanted to give the bible to and had carried the bible round all day waiting for the right moment. The bibles we’d been given were Russian and although people generally speak Russian the official language of the country is Moldovan. While talking that afternoon Serghei was telling us that he was the only person in the church who’s first language was Russian, how perfect that we’d already decided to give him a Russian bible! we presented him with the bible and prayed with him.

The Kingdom of Bahrain and The Sultanate of Oman PDF Print E-mail
Written by Adrian, Sharon, Annie and Joseph Holland

When I first heard about Mission 193 at Bible Week 2006 I instantly knew that I wanted to go to Oman. My father worked over there for 2½ years in the 70s and my mum, my sister and I visited him for 5 weeks, Christmas 1977. I celebrated my 10th birthday in Oman. I had visited Oman as a child and now I wanted to take my own family to visit that very special place and also to take the Gospel with us.

Some months before we travelled, we were informed that we could no longer have a direct flight to Oman and would have to go via Bahrain. Upon checking the Mission 193 website, I was delighted to discover that no-one else was scheduled to visit Bahrain, so what a great opportunity not to waste the 4 hours that we were to spend in Bahrain airport. We registered with Mission 193 and bought the Bibles but, following what I now realise was a word of wisdom, we felt uneasy about taking the Bibles in our hand luggage in case it caused a hold up in customs (in a Muslim country!) Instead we donated the Bibles to Arab World Ministries before we travelled. We still took the Word with us as, The word is very near you, it is in your mouth and in your heart (Deut 30:14). At the airport we declared the scriptures which proclaim that the knowledge of the glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14) and we prayed for the country. We brought Bahrain Bear home with us as a souvenir.

We landed in Oman at 12:45pm local time on Monday 24th March. At customs we were asked to open our suitcases. The police then took both Arabic Bibles out and wanted to know why we had them and could we read Arabic. We explained that we were just bringing them as a gift for the country and didn’t want to offend anyone. They took Adrian into a side room, questioned him, confiscated the Bibles and issued him with a receipt for the Bibles, saying that we could collect them before we left Oman. Naturally we decided that we would leave them with them: We pray that they would fall into the right hands and be read!

Dave & Suzanna’s Mission to Poland PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dave & Suzanna’s Gregg

May 2008 saw us make our mission into Poland.  We had done research and been refused access to the President, prime minister and other government officials because “we are a secular country and are therefore not able to receive gifts/presentations from organisations such as yours.”  That added an extra challange into our visit, as we knew the Lord would have to lead us to someone to give our bibles to.

Just prior to our departure, we discovered the wonderful Terry & Pamela Thomas from the Merthyr church, would be visiting Warsaw at the same time as us.  We were delighted to be able to meet up on our first evening outside the Royal Palace where we encountered an amazing scene…

We were greeted by a unique display of bear statues, each representing the countries in the United Nations, all with their paws raised to heaven!  It was a great backdrop to join with Terry & Pam as we prayed for the country and declared the blessing of God on the nation.

Picture above – Terry & Pam(left) with Dave and Suzanna with the Polish bear and his friends!

For the following 2 days our mission was to see whom we would give our Bibles to.  Part of our desire to go to Poland had been triggered by the fact that Suzanna’s family descendents were part of the Jewish community in Sokolow Podlaski, a town 60 kilometres from Warsaw.  One evening, during World War II, the Germans came and transported the town’s Jewish community in trains to Treblinka, where they were murdered along with 800,000 others during an 11-month period.

Our aim had been to visit the town and find someone to sow the word of God into.  Following a visit to Treblinka, we arrived in Sokolow Podlaski and having walked round the town saw there was a service, taking place in the local Catholic church.

We waited to see if the Holy Spirit drew our attention to any of those departing from the building – after 20 minutes, Suzanna found a car with a “fish” symbol on it but as we could have been waiting forever for the owner to return, we prayed that someone would come within 10 minutes! Suddenly, .. a young man arrived .. we introduced ourselves and through sign language, phrase book and smiles, we found Andrew was delighted to receive our gift of the word of God.

In relation to our other bible, Su had felt the Lord showed her a young man with ginger hair and a beard, so we concluded this was the man who we should try to find.   Now Warsaw proved to be a beautiful city to walk around the following day, but we couldn’t find one ginger haired person….. anywhere!  Then, suddenly, after 6 hours of walking, a group of students came out of a university building and sat down in front of us.  There in the middle was the person Su had seen!

After a while, we approached the young man who was initially reluctant to talk – even though his English was excellent.   When Su explained to Alex that God had shown her a picture of him and told her to give the bible to him, he immediately changed his attitude and said, “then I must take it”.  It was a real answer to prayer and our joy was made complete when we heard that Terry & Pam had also met Anna - the person the Lord had shown them to give their Bible to!

Carrying a Bible around the city of Warsaw gave us a constant reminder that God can orchestrate divine appointments with anyone, anytime, anyplace.  We travelled not having any pre-arranged meetings but trusting that as we committed our way to the Lord, He would indeed guide our steps…. and He did… all 42,350 of them!!

A bear-y good mission!
